Making it to the shortlist for Law Teacher of the Year already feels like a double win for Innersummit’s legal skills manager, Peter Rowlands.

After all, bringing home the title from The Northern Law Awards last year was an incredible achievement, so to even be nominated again has left him feeling truly honoured.

Now named a finalist for the second year in a row in the same category at the Northern Law Awards, Peter said: “I feel overwhelmed and humbled to have been nominated by the team again.”

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner at the Hilton Newcastle Tyne Bridge tomorrow, where Peter will be surrounded by many of the region’s leading legal industry professionals.

“I never would have dreamed that I would be shortlisted again. Regardless of the outcome, it is a testament to the work the whole team does and is recognition, again, on a much wider scale.”

And he will be in good company again with two Innersummit apprentices in the running for their own award, Apprentice of the Year.

The Northern Law Awards celebrate and champion the achievements of those working in the legal industry across a wide range of organisations.

Peter, who delivers CILEx courses and apprenticeship training, is shortlisted alongside law teachers who all work in university settings.

“As a training provider and part of a college group, it shows the quality of what we do and recognises our outcomes and high levels of engagement,” he said.

Invited to attend a judging panel, Peter was given a platform to taking about the Innersummit’s flexible delivery model, working with learners from different backgrounds and their ability to respond to sector demand.

Whatever the outcome tomorrow, he is proud to see Innersummit and their learners in the mix.

Even as a law teacher of more than a decade as part of the team at Bede Sixth Form College, he said: “You are always learning in the legal sector, and there is so much to be gained through discussion with fellow students, apprentices and industry professionals.”
