Consultation on Etc. Instrument and Articles

CONSULTATION DOCUMENT RELATING TO AMENDMENT OF INSTRUMENT AND ARTICLES OF GOVERNMENT FOR THE EDUCATION TRAINING COLLECTIVE

The FE Corporation of the Education Training Collective currently has two serving student governors. The Corporation is proposing to amend its Instrument and Articles of Government to reduce the minimum number of student governors to one; however, the Instrument and Articles would continue to specify a maximum of three student governors.

The purpose of the change is to enable resource to be focussed on supporting student governors in post. Every effort would continue to be made to recruit two student governors but where a vacancy arose in year, recruitment could be deferred to a more appropriate time period.

This change impacts on Section 2 (1) (e) of the Instrument of Government and the proposed revised wording is as follows:

Composition of the Corporation
2.—(1) The Corporation shall consist of—
(e) at least one and not more than three members who are students at the institution and have been nominated and elected by their fellow students, or if the Corporation so decides, by a recognised association representing such students (“student members”).

In accordance with Article 25 (1), the Corporation is permitted to modify its instrument and articles of government after consultation with any other persons who, in the Corporation’s view, are likely to be affected by the proposed changes. It is the view of the Corporation that it is appropriate to consult with students across the Education Training Collective in relation to these proposed changes. The consultation period will commence on 18 April 2023 and close at 5 pm on Thursday 22 June 2023.

This document will be made available on the Etc. website and shared with Student Unions across the group for comment.
